Whether you’re a die-hard aviation enthusiast or just looking for a weekend that’ll make your social media feed look like a movie set, the Midlands Air Festival is the place to be from 29–31 May 2026.
Set against the stunning backdrop of Ragley Hall in Warwickshire, this isn't just a couple of planes flying in circles—it’s a full-throttle celebration of aviation history, cutting-edge tech, and some very large, very strange balloons.
The Modern Marvel: F-35B Lightning II

The undisputed "rockstar" of the 2026 lineup is the RAF F-35B Lightning. This isn't just a jet; it’s a fifth-generation multi-role stealth fighter that looks like it flew straight out of 2045.
-
The "Party Trick": Watching the F-35B transition from supersonic speeds to a dead hover over the Ragley Hall lake is something you have to see to believe. Its Short Take-Off and Vertical Landing (STOVL) capability is a feat of engineering that usually leaves the crowd in stunned silence (until the roar of the engine kicks in).
-
What to Watch For: Keep an eye out for its incredible agility and the "pedal turn" manoeuvre, where the jet rotates almost on its own axis.

The Icons: Battle of Britain Memorial Flight (BBMF)

If the F-35 is the future, the BBMF is the soul of the festival. There is something deeply moving about the sound of a Merlin engine echoing across the English countryside. The 2026 display is slated to feature the "Big Three":
-
The Avro Lancaster: One of only two airworthy Lancasters left in the world. Its four-engine rumble is unmistakable.
-
The Supermarine Spitfire: The elliptical-winged legend that saved the nation in 1940.
-
The Hawker Hurricane: The rugged workhorse of the RAF, often overshadowed by the Spitfire but equally vital.

Beyond the Jets: Balloons and Nightfire

The Midlands Air Festival is unique because it blends high-octane displays with the tranquil (and slightly surreal) beauty of Hot Air Balloons.
-
Mass Ascents: Imagine over 100 balloons taking off simultaneously at dawn and dusk.
In 2026, look out for the "Special Shapes"—including the legendary Harley Davidson motorbike balloon, returning to the UK for the first time in four decades. -
The Nightfire Show (Friday): This is the festival’s signature event.
As darkness falls, aircraft equipped with pyrotechnics trail sparks through the sky, followed by a "Night Glow" where balloons light up like giant lanterns to the beat of music, ending with a massive firework finale.
The 2026 Event Schedule At-A-Glance
| Day | Key Highlights | Vibes |
| Friday, May 29 | Afternoon Air Display + Nightfire Finale | High energy, pyro-heavy, great for a date night. |
| Saturday, May 30 | Full Air Display (F-35B & Red Arrows) | The "Big One." Maximum noise and action. |
| Sunday, May 31 | Final Air Displays & Special Shape Balloons | Family-friendly, slightly more relaxed but still loud. |
Pro-Tips for Your Visit

-
Arrive Early: The gates open as early as 05:30 AM for the morning balloon launches. It’s early, but the sight of 100 balloons in the morning mist is worth the caffeine hit.
-
Bring "The Gear": Even in May, the British weather is a wildcard. Pack suncream, but also a waterproof jacket. And for the love of your eardrums, bring ear protection—the F-35B and the Typhoon are loud enough to rattle your teeth.
-
Camping: If you want the full experience, the onsite camping at Ragley Hall is top-tier.
You get exclusive access to the morning launches and skip the traffic queues. -
Final Thought: Whether you're there for the roar of the Lightning or the glow of the balloons, the 2026 Midlands Air Festival is shaping up to be one of the most balanced aviation events of the decade. See you on the flight line!
