3 Must-See UK Air Shows Happening This May.

May marks the official start of the 2026 UK flying season, and it's a massive month for aviation fans. From the historic grass strips of Old Warden to the coastal cliffs of Torbay, the skies are about to get busy. If you caught our May Air Show Reel, you’ve seen the highlights—now here is the deep dive into where you need to be this month.

1. Midlands Air Festival (29 – 31 May)

The Vibe: A massive three-day spectacular at Ragley Hall that combines "Nightfire" pyrotechnics with world-class flying.

Key Displays: The Red Arrows: Performing full displays on Friday and Saturday (flypast only on Sunday). Nightfire (Friday Night): Hot air balloon "glow," pyrotechnic planes, and a massive firework finale.

The Heavy Hitters: The B-17 "Sally B" and the Avro Lancaster (BBMF).

Why Go: It’s one of the only shows where you can see over 100 hot air balloons take off at sunrise and sunset.

2. English Riviera Airshow (29 – 31 May)

The Vibe: Sun, sea, and speed. This is a coastal show based in Paignton, Torbay, using the bay as a natural amphitheatre.

Key Displays: The Red Arrows are the stars here, alongside the RAF Typhoon and the Royal Navy Black Cats helicopter team.

Why Go: This event is FREE to attend! You can watch from the beach for nothing, though VIP seating and "Aperol Spritz" garden upgrades are available for those wanting a premium view.

3. Shuttleworth: Wings & Wheels (Saturday, 30 May)

The Vibe: A double-whammy for petrolheads and aviation geeks.

Key Displays: While the BBMF Hurricane and Spitfire "Elizabeth" handle the skies, the ground is filled with vintage cars, steam engines, and heritage bicycles.

Why Go: This show features a unique evening flying slot (19:30–20:30), offering that perfect "Golden Hour" lighting for photographers.

Pro-Tips for Your May Airshow Trip

Traffic Warning: For the Midlands and Riviera shows, the bank holiday traffic is no joke. Arrive 2 hours before the flight starts.

Check the Frequency: If you have an airband radio, the "Display Frequency" is where the real action (and pilot commentary) happens.

Ear Protection: Modern jets like the Typhoon can reach 120+ decibels. If you’re bringing the kids, "ear defenders" are a must.

Look the part: Represent the Royal Air Force and The Red Arrows with our wide range of Officially Licensed Merchandise, there's no better place to shop ahead of Air Show Season!
